What could cause an employee to get fired? Well, maybe because of performance issues? or attitude issues?
Well, this incident for a Somali native getting fired is truly bizarre.
A 54-year-old Fadumo Sardeye, a Somali native who has moved to the United States in the early 1990s, and since then, she had been working for Walmart most of the time.
Recently, she has cried out for help after she got fired from her job for refusing to sell pork and alcohol.
Walmart spokesperson LeMia Jenkins has debunked all of Sardeye’s claims and reiterated that Sardeye was fired because she failed to show up for work too many times.” Lazy isn’t a religion.
After the incident, Attorney Jerry Martin, a high-priced attorney of Fadumo Sardeye have filed a lawsuit against Walmart for religious discrimination.
Mr. Martin released a statement, “she was fired solely because of her faith and immigration status.”
Walmart also confirmed that Sardeye was using her privileges as an excuse to shirk her duties as she was always given what she requires such as being allowed to wear a hijab, refusing to handle pork and alcohol products, and taking off work to observe major Islamic holidays.
For years, Walmart argues, “Sardeye was accommodated in every way she required.” That wasn’t good enough for her.
Despite the good things Walmart has given to her, she still claims that she was abused and ultimately terminated for simply being a Somali Muslim.
On the other hand, A local news outlet has reported that her lawsuit alleges that the Knoxville store where everyone was so nasty. Her management team was vicious enough to deny “her vacation requests during the month of Ramadan.”
Or so the Muslim says. She also wants a jury to believe that her boss “demanded she locates a passage in the Quran to prove that she wasn’t allowed to touch pork and alcohol products.” It will be interesting to see if that exchange shows up on the security videos.
Not only her employer but Sardeye also claims that her co-workers are harassing her on her said statement, adding that she was retaliated against after she contacted Walmart’s corporate office to complain of discrimination and she also complained about the scheduling issues that led to her termination after she was repeatedly penalized for working shifts her supervisor gave her because it didn’t match the times recorded from the store’s computerized scheduling system.
Likewise, LeMia has debunked all these claims by saying, “We do not tolerate discrimination or retaliation. Ms. Sardeye was terminated for repeatedly violating our attendance policy. While we haven’t been served with the complaint, we intend to defend the company against this litigation.”
