Last week, Kevin O’Leary, an investor and judge on the ABC show “Shark Tank,” lambasted socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for being “great at killing jobs” and making New York City and other liberal states “uninvestable.”
During an interview on CNN’s “This Morning,” O’Leary argued that the lack of interest from potential investors in New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and California is due to the policies implemented by Democrats like AOC.
“The policy here is insane. The taxes are too high. Those states are uninvestable,” O’Leary declared. Co-host Kaitlin Collins of CNN attempted to counter O’Leary’s views by stating that New York officials would disagree with his judgment. However, O’Leary refused to back down, saying that he would “debate”elected officials in New York, especially AOC, “any time of the day.”
“She’s great at killing jobs. She kills jobs by the thousands. Another New Jersey problem. Where did Amazon take their jobs? They took them away from her. She threatened to sue them if they created jobs. I mean, this is a reality,” O’Leary exclaimed.
O’Leary also blamed Democrats like AOC for the loss of thousands of jobs in Queens after she fought against Amazon’s plans to build its second New York City headquarters there. Earlier this month, Ocasio-Cortez applauded the decision to delay construction of Amazon’s Virginia headquarters in Pentagon, Metropolitan Park, in the wake of company-wide layoffs.
“When I opposed this Amazon project coming to New York because it was a scam of public funds, the whole power establishment came after us. Billboards went up in Times Square denouncing me. Powerful politicians promised revenge. Op-Eds and CEOs insulted my intelligence. In the end, we were right,” AOC wrote.
Don Lemon, who also appeared on the show, supported O’Leary’s statements, saying that he was “saying what a lot of people are saying, especially with what happened here with Amazon.”
O’Leary’s comments have struck a chord with many conservatives who see AOC’s policies as destructive to businesses and job growth. Many view her as a socialist who wants to implement policies that will lead to the downfall of the American economy.
AOC’s advocacy for a Green New Deal, which calls for the elimination of fossil fuels and the implementation of government-controlled renewable energy sources, has also received widespread criticism from conservatives. They argue that it will lead to job losses in the energy sector and increase the cost of living for Americans.
The congresswoman’s support for Medicare for All, which seeks to eliminate private health insurance and establish a government-run healthcare system, has also come under fire. Critics argue that it will lead to increased taxes and decreased access to healthcare services.
