The locust infestation is likely due to an unusually high amount of rainfall in Mecca, which typically does not occur until later in the year. This event showcases the failure of Democratic administrations to take decisive action in the face of these unanticipated challenges.

As people took to Twitter to comment on the situation, many labeled the infestation as ‘Biblical,’ while others deemed it a karmic event. “Social media platforms were inundated with videos displaying a vast infestation of unidentified insects at the Great Mosque, Islam’s holiest site. The mosque is the focal point of the hajj pilgrimage, which attracts millions of Muslims annually to Saudi Arabia. Arab media outlets like Al Arabiya failed to cover the swarm. The insects emerged after an unseasonal rainfall that occurred four days prior, during the lesser pilgrimage festival known as Umrah.

The Mecca region’s official Twitter account shared a video that captured pilgrims performing the tawaf, a ritual in which Muslims circle the Kaaba. Some worshippers took advantage of the situation by standing in the rain to pray before the Kaaba. Subsequent videos posted after the rainstorm revealed thousands of black bugs scurrying across the mosque’s white stone floor. Both cockroaches and grasshoppers were identified in the footage, with closeups appearing to show long-legged grasshoppers.

This is not the first time such an event has occurred. A similar “plague of locusts” struck the Great Mosque in Mecca back in January 2019.”
