Haley Stevens Endorses GOP Senate Pick; Top Dems Blast Move

Share X Facebook Email

Michigan Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens endorsed Republican Mike Rogers in the state’s U.S. Senate race over Democrat Abdul El‑Sayed, according to a Nov. 1 article by The Gateway Pundit (TGP) by Patty McMurray. TGP attributes a wave of critical posts on X to leading Democrats in response.

What TGP says top Democrats posted

TGP reports that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized the reaction to El‑Sayed, quoting him as writing: “We Democrats are equally united in our total revulsion at the racist, Islamophobic, and over-the-top false attacks on Abdul by Republicans.” The outlet also says Schumer labeled Stevens’ endorsement “a despicable betrayal.”

Per TGP, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had recently called El‑Sayed’s past comments on Israel “more than concerning” and “wrong” in remarks shared via the On Brand with Donny Deutsch podcast. TGP then attributes this later X post to Pelosi about Stevens: “Haley Stevens has chosen to dangerously betray Michigan families’ healthcare, freedoms, and future with her horrific endorsement of Mike Rogers. Abdul El‑Sayed must win — because Michigan and our country deserve better.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders posted, according to TGP: “Rep. Haley Stevens’ staff is right to resign in disgust. They understand that the election in Michigan is far more important than Haley’s fragile ego and that all of us must stand together to elect Abdul, defeat Rogers, and end the Republican rubber-stamp control of the Senate.”

TGP cites Rep. Ayanna Pressley as posting a video and writing: “Haley Stevens lied to me. I will not sit by while she tries to use Black folks as a prop and costs us our lives. Vote for @AbdulElSayed.”

New York politician Zohran Kwame Mamdani is quoted by TGP as posting: “Working class people’s lives are on the ballot on Tuesday—their healthcare, their rent, their bills. Haley Stevens just betrayed them by endorsing the very Republican she said she wanted to run against.”

According to TGP, Rep. Ilhan Omar urged support for El‑Sayed on X: “Dr. Abdul El-Sayed will be an incredible fighter for Michiganders. Abdul represents the future of our party. Don’t get distracted by the noise from shills for AIPAC. Money out of politics. More money in your pockets. Medicare for All. That’s the fight. Vote Abdul.”
