For twenty years, Richard Mason believed that he was living a perfect life. Married to a woman he adored, he was the proud father of three sons. At the age of 55, Richard decided to sue his ex-wife, Kate Mason, for the $5.8 million she had received during their 2008 divorce proceedings. Feeling cheated out of his family life, Richard sought to reclaim what he believed was rightfully his from Kate.
In addition to pursuing financial restitution, Richard aimed to investigate the alleged paternity fraud committed by his ex-wife. Kate eventually agreed to settle with her ex-husband, under the condition that she would not have to disclose the identity of the children’s biological father. She wished to shield her lover from the wrath of Richard and the boys.
Richard’s lawyer spoke to the Telegraph, stating, “I think it was the major reason for her settling. I was shocked and surprised that she had settled. I thought we were going to have a very acrimonious court battle. We were confident that we would get a court order whereby the ex-wife, the mother of the children, would have to name the father. She didn’t want to name the father – why, we don’t know – that is why she came to a financial settlement, and in the settlement, she did not have to name the father.”
