As athletes from all over the world arrive in Tokyo for the highly-anticipated Summer Olympics, it’s clear that this year’s events will be different than any other. This is, of course, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, which delayed the Games by a full year. To keep athletes and all other attendees as safe as possible, there have been plenty of safety measures put in place, with one curious creation — cardboard “anti-sex” beds — going viral on social media.
Cardboard-made ‘anti-sex beds provided to athletes to prevent intimacy at the Tokyo Games village have triggered a plethora of reactions online, with many calling them ‘bizarre’.
To ensure that everyone won’t be spreading anything, the rooms are filled with “anti-sex” beds and the athletes are forbidden to take part in any inessential physical activities with other athletes such as social get-togethers and sexual intercourse.
According to reports, the design of the “anti-sex” bed is to only carry the weight of one single person that will cause any damage if there’s any sudden movement or if the weight is exceeded.
These “anti-sex” beds are more like “anti-sleep” beds which is very uncomfortable as I imagined, how much more sleeping into these beds.

In a Twitter thread, Rio Olympics silver medallist in 5000 meters, Paul Chelimo, joked about the bizarre sleeping setup aimed to avoid intimacy among athletes.’
“Beds to be installed in Tokyo Olympic Village will be made of cardboard, this is aimed at avoiding intimacy among athletes. Beds will be able to withstand the weight of a single person to avoid situations beyond sports. I see no problem for distance runners, even 4 of us can do,” he wrote while sharing a picture of the beds.

In the following tweet, Chelimo🇺🇸 also joked about people, who pee in their sleep, to be at “risk” on the cardboard beds. “At this point, I will have to start practicing how to sleep on the floor; cause If my bed collapses and I have no training on sleeping on the floor I’m done.”
