25-year-old Jamie Avery Jr. from West Palm Beach, Florid faces charges of attempted murder, arson, and endangering the welfare of a child after attempting to set a one-year-old baby girl on fire.

According to authorities, when they arrived, they found two men trying to start a fire and a 1-year-old child covered with inflammable liquid near a gas station in Tyre, New York on Tuesday. Officials say the child was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Here’s what Lt. Timothy Thompson said during a news conference via WPBF:

‘It is alleged that the two suspects had poured a flammable liquid on the 1-year-old child and attempted to light the child on fire inside the building. Luckily the two were unsuccessful.’

‘Circumstances surrounding the 4-year-old are still under investigation.’

But Thompson believes Avery was a parent to the children.

According to officials from the sheriff’s department, both children are expected to survive and make full recoveries.

Avery was arraigned in Seneca County Court and held on $100,000 cash bail. No word yet on other charges for the other person who was detained.
