With the ongoing political tensions, some people wonder if it is okay to display feelings of patriotism in America. The left and the right may have differences in how a country should be run, but are both groups proud to be American?
Well, one bar owner, located in the City of Brotherly Love, decided to display a sign of patriotism in order to increase business. In the front of his business, the bar owner displayed a sign stating, “If you’re not proud to be an American, do not bother to come in.” This sign attracted a man named Victor Fiorillo to step in and buy a drink.

While Victor Fiorillo went out for a drink at night, he decided to go to the Old Philadelphia Bar in the City of Brotherly Love. He wanted a beer and some good company, but when he saw the sign etched on the window, it gave him pause.
Nevertheless, he went inside and voted with his dollars by buying a beer, and that’s when a patron spoke up so the whole bar could hear him. The patron was a former firefighter who is of Mexican descent. He wanted to show that it is okay to be patriotic so he played “God Bless the USA” on the nearby jukebox. As Lee Greenwood’s song played, it sparked other patrons to chime in and sing along.
The bar owner stands by his value and has been serving drinks for many decades in this area of Philadelphia. He wants people to know that they will be treated with cheers of joy if they walked inside. The bar owner himself has kept cheap pints of beers and advertises sales during sporting events to urge patrons to come inside.
The owner believes that hipsters are ruining the neighborhood and making people feel bad for showing acts of patriotism.
According to Opposing Views:
The bar has been a staple in its Philadelphia neighborhood for decades. However, this sign is a new addition to the classic bar. They just want people to know that they’re about to be greeted with patriotic good cheer when they step inside.
The bar has even kept other classic elements from the Good Old Days – including cheap $1.50 pints of domestic beers. If it is a televised sporting event, you can land a beer for just $1 – talk about a steal.
The bar is proud to be hipster-free. It attacks “real men,” and not yuppies and the working professionals who are quickly infiltrating the neighborhood and ruining everything in sight.
However, social media got a hold of controversy surrounding the bar’s sign and caused some outrage amongst liberals, according to Opposing Views.
Locals are even afraid of the bar if they are not white men. A woman from Fairmount knows about the bar nicknamed “Old Philly” and said she would not go because she has an Indian boyfriend with a beard.
“I would avoid going there,” she told Victor Fiorillo. “It’s usually fine. Sometimes, some places, it’s not fine. As is obvious from that sign.”

The Philadelphia bar owner still doesn’t understand why there is so much controversy surrounding his sign. Victor Fiorillo was proud to be an American and the bartender even agreed that anyone who lives in this country should be proud.
