Looking for some amazing food hacks? Well, you’ve come to the right place.
I know many of us would like to stock our refrigerators with delicious fruits and vegetables during a trip to the supermarket. Especially in the summer!
Fruits, like strawberries, are refreshing and packed with vitamins and minerals that are good for us and keep us healthy. Strawberries are filled with antioxidants, vitamin C, folate, potassium, manganese, fiber, and magnesium, according to Organic Facts.
It’s a shame to spend all that money on our strawberries only to find that they get slimy or covered in the mold when we reach for them in our refrigerators after having only bought them a few days prior.
So, we are sharing with you this amazing food hack that could help strawberries fresh in the fridge for weeks.
Firstly, strawberries hate moisture and don’t like being enclosed without oxygen. If they are wet and stored in sealed containers or plastic bags they will go moldy much more quickly.
Prepare the following items:
- container of strawberries
- 1 cup of white vinegar
- 3 cups of water
- large bowl
- Salad spinner (or colander)
- Paper towels
When you have these items follow these steps:
- Make a solution out of vinegar and water (3 cups water to 1 cup white vinegar). Dump the strawberries into this solution and leave it for 2-3 minutes. Drain and rinse the strawberries and pat dry with paper towels.
- After they’re completely dry, place them back in a container lined with paper towels.
- Place the strawberries upright in rows.
- Store in a refrigerator until you use them.
The white vinegar bath should allow you to store the strawberries for up to 2 weeks in the fridge without worrying about them spoiling!
