World Records aren’t established every day, but new kinds of world records can be. Guinness World Record Day encourages you to push the limits of human endurance and creativity and set that new world record, whether you’re attempting to hold your breath the longest (Stig Severinsen currently holds the record for 22 minutes) or spend the longest amount of time holding a table tennis ball over your mouth (6.35 seconds is the current record).
And speaking of, as we all know John Cena is a well-known actor and a wrestler — but for decades, he’s also played a far different role behind the scenes.
The WWE Ruthless Aggression Era Legend John Cena has set a new record for the most wishes granted through the Make-A-Wish Foundation with 650. According to Guinness World Records, Cena has spent his free time granting hundreds of wishes through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, setting an impressive new record for the number of wishes “granted” to ill or dying children
In a press release from Guinness World Records, the wrestler-turned-actor has fulfilled 650 wishes for kids by working with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In the 42-year history of the organization, no one had ever granted more than 200 wishes, so this was hundreds more than anyone else.
After he completed 500 hospital visits in September 2022, Cena reportedly said, “If you ever need me for this ever, I don’t care what I’m doing, I will drop what I’m doing and be involved because I think that’s the coolest thing, I just drop everything (and) if I can offer a fantastic experience, I’ll be the first to do my part.”
The Make-A-Wish Foundation offers wishes to children between the age of two and a half and 18 who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Children can choose to meet a celebrity, attend an event, or even give a gift to someone else.
Cena is the most requested celebrity among Make-A-Wish children, as Guinness cited. He granted his first wish in 2002 and marked Make-A-Wish’s 1000th wish in 2012 by granting a wish to a fan named Cardon.
As NPR reports, the Make-A-Wish Foundation offers wishes to children between the age of two and a half and 18 who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Children can choose to meet a celebrity, attend an event, or even give a gift to someone else.
