A Cashier Shot A Shoplifter, And Now There’s A Murder Charge….

An employee at a Family Dollar store in Houston is being charged with murder after shooting a man who was allegedly trying to shoplift.

Antonio Batres, 21, reportedly shot 49-year-old Troy Odom at the store on Sunday around 4:30 p.m. Houston Police responded to the shooting before the city’s fire department transported Odom to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities said store employees confronted Odom when he attempted to shoplift from the store, leading to him and Batres getting into a physical altercation.

While Odom had his back turned, Batres pulled out a firearm and shot him several times, police said.

More details of this incident from AWM:

Video footage was recorded of the murder. Another shopper who was witnessing the incident recorded the video of two Family Dollar employees confronting Odom regarding the attempted theft. One of the men in the video is shouting at Odom, but the words that are used cannot be clearly heard. During the altercation, which resulted in the seemingly wrongful death of Odom, bottles of motor oil were thrown around the store and spilled on the ground.

“He had that all in his pants,” said the woman filming the video. “He had a lot of fuel.”

In the video, Odom is shown leaving the store, at which time the woman recording the video says, “He needs to chill out.” The two employees follow Odom out of the store. It’s not entirely clear at this moment whether or not Odom brought any stolen merchandise with him when he exited the store – or if he left the stuff back in the Family Dollar.

Footage shows Batres shooting Odom in the back. Before he unloads the entire clip into the man, Batres can be seen taking a wide stance and aiming his gun as accurately as he could before firing again and again at his intended victim, who stole from the Family Dollar location.

Odom was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Batres has been charged with murder for his role in the incident. Batres had been a part-time employee at the Family Dollar store for two or three months.

Batres is currently being held in police custody on a $75,000 bond and has remained jailed since his arrest, according to the reports.
