Bodycam Footage Of The Police That Took Down Nashville Shooter Has Been Released
Nashville police have recently released astonishing bodycam footage showing officers confronting and fatally shooting the suspected Covenant School shooter.
The horrifying incident, which took place at the private Christian elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee, lasted for approximately 14 minutes, as reported by CNN. Surveillance video captured the shooter, armed with three firearms, breaking through the school’s glass doors to gain entry and then roaming the hallways with an assault-style weapon.
Police were first alerted to the active shooter situation at 10:13 a.m. local time, and five responding officers quickly arrived at the scene. Nashville Police Chief John Drake commended their swift action, as they heard gunfire emanating from the school’s second floor. Upon confronting the shooter, who had been firing through a window at arriving police cars, two officers opened fire, killing the suspect at 10:27 a.m. local time.
In the wake of this tragic event, a former teammate of the transgender suspect, who stands accused of murdering three children and three adults at the Nashville Christian school, revealed that she received a cryptic message from the suspect before the killings. Averianna Patton, a former basketball teammate of the alleged shooter, shared this message with CNN reporter Don Lemon. She received the message at 9:57 a.m. and sent a screenshot of it to her father at 10:08 a.m., who advised her to call a suicide prevention hotline.

Patton contacted the Nashville Davidson County Sheriff’s Office at 10:13 a.m. and the non-emergency line at 10:14 a.m. She expressed her disbelief to CNN, stating that she tried to reach out without knowing it was the shooter. The message from the suspect indicated that it was essentially a suicide note and they planned to die that day. The message continued with a warning that it wasn’t a joke and that Patton would likely hear about the shooter on the news after their death.
In response, Patton tried to comfort and encourage the shooter, subsequently reaching out to the Suicide Prevention Help Line after being instructed to by her father. She called Nashville’s non-emergency line at 10:14 a.m. and was on hold for almost seven minutes before speaking with someone who said they would send an officer to her home. However, an officer didn’t arrive until 3:29 p.m.
After learning that her former teammate was the Covenant Nashville school shooter, Patton was devastated and expressed her heartbreak for all the families affected by the tragedy. This chilling account serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of recognizing and addressing mental health concerns in our communities, as well as the need for swift action and communication among authorities in response to such threats.
