An impassioned police officer takes to social media, educating the public on a crucial yet often overlooked standard safety feature, capable of saving lives and reducing road rage.

In an age where car manufacturers constantly advertise their latest safety features, one crucial aspect of vehicular safety remains woefully overlooked: the turn signal.

While people desire to keep themselves and their loved ones safe on the road, they often neglect the basics. As high-tech features become more prevalent, understanding their function is essential, but so is awareness of the simple yet effective tools already at our disposal.

Enter Officer John Perrine of the Indiana State Police Department, who is determined to educate the public about the importance of a standard safety feature found in every vehicle – the turn signal.

In an effort to raise awareness, Officer Perrine took matters into his own hands, recording a video discussing this often-underutilized feature that, when employed correctly, can save lives and prevent accidents.

In the video, Officer Perrine piques our curiosity with an enticing question, “What if I told you there’s a feature on every car that’s standard that’ll not only prevent crashes but also help prevent road rage?” Indeed, the prospect of reducing both crashes and road rage is undoubtedly appealing.

Officer Perrine proceeds to demonstrate this life-saving feature, easily accessible from the driver’s seat – the humble turn signal. Despite its widespread familiarity, many drivers neglect to use it when changing lanes or turning at intersections, endangering everyone on the road.

The officer candidly points out the inconvenient truth that using the turn signal may necessitate putting down one’s coffee, cell phone, or other distractions, emphasizing the importance of safe driving practices. Legally required and a matter of basic etiquette, using the turn signal can help avert accidents and incidents of road rage.

Officer Perrine concludes his video with a simple plea: “So please, use your turn signal.” As the number of drivers on the road increases each year, it is vital to take every precaution to ensure safety. By neglecting to use the turn signal, drivers expose themselves and others to unnecessary risks.

Heed Officer Perrine’s advice and use your turn signal while on the road. Watch his insightful video, which has garnered millions of views on Facebook, and join the movement towards safer driving practices.

It has been my experience in nearly 46 years as a driver that turn signal use has become an option very few use and yes that includes police. It is like using headlights when it rains or snows. It is the law where most live but few obey it.
