A Democratic congressman’s heated meltdown during a recent hearing reveals the hypocrisy and double standards of the left, as his checkered past with an alleged Chinese spy takes center stage.
Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell of California had a meltdown during a recent hearing when a Republican congressman brought up his alleged past sexual relationship with a suspected female Chinese operative.
The scene unfolded as Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) and Swalwell participated in a House Judiciary Subcommittee hearing on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement, which focused on the exploitation of unaccompanied migrant children, according to the Daily Caller.
“Instead of discussing the pressing issue at hand, Rep. Swalwell’s unsavory past took center stage, leaving the border crisis unaddressed,” Nehls pointed out. Swalwell, clearly agitated, interrupted Nehls and vehemently denied the allegations.
Nehls was referring to Swalwell’s reported ties to Christine Fang, aka Fang Fang, an alleged Chinese spy. A December 2020 Axios investigation revealed that Fang had developed connections with Swalwell and other California politicians from 2011 to 2015.
The report claimed that Fang raised campaign funds for Swalwell and arranged for an intern to work in his congressional office. She was allegedly connected to China’s Ministry of State Security and reportedly engaged in sexual relationships with two American mayors from the Midwest.
Despite Swalwell’s denials, his relationship with Fang led to his removal from the House Intelligence Committee by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in January. The Daily Caller highlighted this development.

In a Fox News interview, Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert commended McCarthy for removing controversial Democrats like Swalwell from their committee assignments. Boebert questioned Swalwell’s continued access to classified information, given his association with the alleged Chinese spy.
Boebert also criticized Democrats for their double standards and hypocrisy. She noted that they relentlessly attacked Donald Trump and his family members, while ignoring or downplaying the controversies surrounding Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
“The mainstream media would have had a field day if a Republican were caught in a similar situation with a Chinese spy. They’d be relentless in their coverage,” Boebert argued. “But Swalwell not only escaped scrutiny, he even chaired a subcommittee while juggling ties to a foreign adversary.”
Swalwell has repeatedly claimed his innocence, asserting that he severed ties with Fang after the FBI warned him of her potential as a spy. He also maintains that the bureau cleared him of any national security risk.
