He Said His Parrot Could Sing A Legendary Song, But Nobody Believed Him Until…

No disrespect to Robert Plant, but the most powerful voice in rock music is currently an 18-year-old Amazon parrot named Tico, who lives in Florida in a literal gilded cage with his human dad, Frank Maglio Jr.

Frank and his wife Gina live in Florida with their pet parrot Tico. Tico previously lived with an older British woman before the Maglios adopted him.

Frank has always enjoyed playing the guitar, but when the pandemic hit, he found himself strumming the strings more than usual. While he was strumming, Tico decided to make it a duet and started singing along.

One day while Frank was strumming “Stairway to Heaven,” Tico started to sing along, and Gina pulled out her phone to start recording the unusual duet. The Maglios posted the video on Facebook, and the rest, as they say, is history.

While the parrot doesn’t sing any of the actual words of the songs it “covers”, its ability to accurately replicate each track’s vocal melody has earned Tico and the guitar-playing Maglio a small slice of internet fame.

Frank started a YouTube channel called Tico & The Man Frank Maglio where he posts videos of his duets with his pet parrot. The channel has over 260,000 subscribers. Frank also continues to post videos on Facebook.

With viewers wowed by Tico’s considerable talents, the video quickly went viral and has amassed more than 3 million views.

“We are an instrumental band, but we’d make an exception for the amazing Tico.”

“What a lovely man – he plays beautifully but is still willing to be upstaged by his musically gifted parrot. These videos give me so much joy – and this one in particular. Lucky little bird. It’s clear daddy loves him.”

“He’s a bit bird-brained, naturally, but you can tell he’s listened and remembers the real song. Sometimes he hits around parts of the original melody, but he’s really out there on his own stuff, just jamming.”

“My budgie used to compose accompaniments to music we heard, ringing his bell at different tempos and in musical ways frankly he understood better than I would, and vocalizing subtly in accompaniment. He died this spring. I miss you, Little Genius.”
