He Saw Someone Pass Out On The Floor, What This Sailor Did Is…

He saw someone pass out on the floor, but what he did next was nothing short of heroic, that is for certain…

Simply put, you never know when life saving training is going to come in handy for you or for others. One such case occurred at a workout at the EōS Fitness in Temecula, California, that duty called.

Navy Counselor First Class Ryan P. Lighten was digging his working and letting those endorphins ride when someone alerted him to an emergency taking place in that same fitness center.

“I was working out on the bench press with my earbuds in, when one of my Future Sailors ran up to me with a scared look on his face, yelling frantically,” Lighten said to the reporter affiliated with the Navy Talent Acquisition Group Southwest.

“He told me there was a man lying on the floor who was unresponsive and not breathing.”

The 29-year-old was a man on a mission when he headed over, and he experienced a flicker of doubt. However, it didn’t matter, because he had received all of the training that he needed thanks to the Navy.

“My first thought was, ‘I hope I can remember my training,’” Lighten said. “Future Sailor Dominic Rodgers cleared a path for me, telling everyone in the vicinity that I knew CPR.

“Rodgers told me later that he knew the Navy provided CPR training to all of its personnel, which was why he ran straight to me.”

Before he began, Lighten told those around him that they needed to stay clear of the area, directing them to call 911.

Lighten did CPR for 15 minutes and then finally the man began to breathe on his own. Ultimately, he was taken to Temecula Valley Hospital when the first responders arrived.

“The guy never really saw who had helped him,” Lighten later said. “I hope I get the opportunity to formally introduce myself to him in the future.

“I would like to wish the gentleman I helped a speedy recovery and healthy future.”

Lighten said he has to give all of the credit to the Navy, and not just for the training that helped him be able to save this man’s life. The Navy also helped him to better himself and give him and his family a much better future.

“The Navy has given me a brighter outlook on my life and a more promising future for my son,” he said.

Lighten also hopes that this incident will inspire others to join the Navy or another branch of the service.

“I frequently volunteer at the local high schools, animal hospitals and retirement homes with the purpose of giving back to my community and spreading Navy awareness,” he said. “The Navy has helped me by putting me in a position to grow as a leader.”

What would you do if you saw someone pass out on the floor? If you have the training that you would get from the Navy, you would definitely be prepared for it!
