Seventeen-year-old Charles Reid Roseberry, a motorcycle aficionado from Georgia, found himself in hot water after a high-stakes, adrenaline-fueled police chase spanning multiple counties. He might have managed to avoid capture, if not for a single, crucial mistake: Roseberry proudly posted footage of his escapade on TikTok, intending to flaunt his evasion skills.
As a result of his decision to share the evidence on the popular social media platform, Roseberry faced a staggering thirteen charges for his perilous escapade across two Georgian counties. The charges were duplicated for each county, adding up to a daunting legal battle for the young speedster.
Courtney Floyd, the Public Information Officer at the Georgia Department of Public Safety, informed the Daily Mail that Roseberry was apprehended on December 14, 2022. The self-incriminating TikTok videos he uploaded made the investigators’ job much easier.
The four-part video series showcased Roseberry’s prized possession—a rare 2022 Triumph Street Triple RS motorcycle. The distinctive bike aided investigators in their search, ultimately leading to his arrest. To make matters worse, Roseberry also uploaded the videos to YouTube and Instagram, unwittingly providing the authorities with ample evidence of his reckless actions and endangering the lives of countless individuals, including police officers.
Upon his arrest, Roseberry was booked into the Henry County Jail. While he has since been released, the details of his bond and his next scheduled court appearance remain undisclosed. It is also unknown whether Roseberry managed to profit from the videos that led to his downfall.
According to the Daily Mail, Roseberry was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, following too closely, aggressive driving, removing a license plate with intent to conceal or misrepresent, reckless driving, and failure to obey traffic control devices, among other charges.
The chase in question occurred on September 17, 2022, when a Georgia state trooper narrowly escaped a collision with Roseberry’s speeding motorcycle, which bore no tags. The trooper tried to initiate a traffic stop, but Roseberry stubbornly refused to comply, instigating a high-speed pursuit that endangered hundreds of lives.
While the police ultimately lost sight of Roseberry’s motorcycle, the teenager’s eagerness to share his exploits on various social media platforms led investigators straight to him.
Nearly three months after the dangerous chase, on December 1, 2022, Clayton County Lieutenant T.C. Reimers stumbled upon the incriminating videos. Roseberry had recorded the footage using a camera mounted on his motorcycle, with the aim of achieving TikTok stardom.
A news release commended Lieutenant Reimers for his diligence, stating:
“Without the diligent efforts of Lieutenant Reimers to go above and beyond the call of duty, it is highly likely that the offender would not have been identified, and he could have continued to endanger the citizens of Clayton County.”
In his quest for fame and notoriety, Charles Reid Roseberry ended up facing the harsh consequences of his actions, a stark reminder that risky behavior and the desire for social media attention can lead to dire consequences.
