Dad took matters into his own hand after her daughter’s sexual abuser get a short sentence.
When Jay Maynor from Alabama discovered his daughter, Julia, had been sexually abused as a child by her grandfather – his father-in-law – he was understandably devastated. To find out a trusted member of his family had done something so grossly indecent and disturbing to a young child (Julia was aged between 4 and 9 when the series of assaults took place) would be incredibly difficult for anyone to process.
But 43-year-old Jay’s reaction wasn’t just one of heartbreak and anger; it morphed into a bitter desire for violence which ultimately resulted in the murder of Raymond Brooks, Julia’s grandfather.
Back in 2002, 59-year-old Alabama man Raymond Earl Brooks pleaded guilty to molesting his adopted granddaughter, Julie Maynor. Brooks had sexually abused Julie for years and served only 18 months of his five-year sentence. Julie was only eight years old when the abuse came to light and she had suffered abuse at the hands of Brooks for the previous four or five years.
On June 8th, Jay took matters into his own hands, driving to Brooks’ home where he confronted Brooks and then shot him to death.
Jay was later arrested and at his trial this month he refused to fight the charges. He instead pleaded guilty because, he said, he wanted to spare his daughter, Julie Maynor, the trauma of having to “relive” her childhood abuse by testifying on behalf of his defense. After Jay’s sentencing, Julie had the following to say about all that had happened.
Julia Maynor
According to Julia Maynor, her father has been treated unfairly. She believes he was simply acting as a father desperately trying to protect his children. She further believes that Raymond Brooks was subjected to unfair treatment by the judicial system, but for the opposite reason. She told the media that her childhood sexual abuser got off way too lightly for the crime he pleaded guilty to committing.
“He took my innocence away and only served like 18 months, and now I suffer daily from what Raymond did to me. It’s not fair.”

Julia tells the media that she is “going through hell”as a result of everything that’s happened.
“I’m going thru hell. Everything comes back to me as to why this has happened. I feel like it’s my fault. I’m sad but yet mad.”
The father was also charged with allegedly opening fire on one of his stepdaughter’s abusive boyfriends outside a convenience store moments before the slaying of Brooks.
Mike Hays, who worked at a restaurant inside the plaza where the shooting occurred, said he came face-to-face with the shooter after the man opened fire outside and then entered a store looking for his intended victim, who wasn’t hurt.
Jay Maynor has since been sentenced to 40 years for the killing of Brooks and the attempted murder of his step-daughter’s boyfriend.
Now, an online petition was organized and nearly 5,400 people have signed on Change.org calling for the pardon of the Alabama father who killed the man convicted of sexually abusing his daughter when she was a child.
The father should be given a FULL PARDON and a Medal for both shootings. He acted as a MAN who is protecting his family would. The man he threaded was a threat to his family and his actions were proper in protecting his child. He should have killed the abusive boyfriend as well as the SLIMEBAG of a Supposed Grandfather. Both males got what their actions warranted. Now the people need to put an end to the Judge’s letting criminals walk with such short sentences and letting Scum walk with doing barely any time. The Judge should be tried as an accessory after the fact and disbarred for life along with being banned from any and all public offices for life. That would mean he could NEVER become a law maker especially at the Federal level and never sit on the Supreme Court of the UNITED STATES.
