One Canadian branch of Home Depot sparked outrage on Wednesday after its notice to its employees went online about the benefits of “white privilege” and included a checklist for those who are “white, male, Christian, cisgender, able-bodied, and heterosexual.”
The controversial notice titled “Leading Practices – Unpacking privilege” was said to be posted in an employee lounge at a Home Depot in Calgary, Alberta.
The notice went viral this week after it was posted on Twitter. Many people are threatening to boycott the Canadian store.

The following posts show pictures of a packet called “Leading Practices: Unpacking Privilege,” which were reportedly taken by a Home Depot employee. The handout highlights social advantages such as white privilege, class privilege, Christian privilege, and cisgender privilege that can benefit some people to the detriment of others.
For example, it notes that “If you’re confident that the police exist to protect you, you have white privilege.” Or, “If you can expect time off from work to celebrate your religious holidays, you have Christian privilege.” It also lists being able-bodied, heterosexual, and male as additional types of privilege.

The Home Depot spokeswoman didn’t immediately say whether the information had been discontinued in its Canadian division.
The New York Post reported the statement by the spokeswoman: “While we fully support diversity across our company, this material was not created or approved by our corporate diversity, equity and inclusion department. This was a resource in our Canadian division and not part of any required programming.”
Some of the packet’s privilege warnings:
- “If while growing up, college was an expectation of you, not a dream, you have class privilege.”
- “If you can use public bathrooms without stares, fear, or anxiety, you have the cisgender privilege.”
- “If you don’t have to worry about how to get into a store, you have the able-bodied privilege.”
- “If you don’t have to explain that your spouse is of the same gender, you have the heterosexual privilege.”
According to one source that’s familiar with the notice, the company does not require that the content of the notice be taught as part of its diversity and inclusion initiative, a source familiar with the matter.
Some conservatives and free speech advocates have denounced attempts by companies and colleges to impose “woke” indoctrination.
One Twitter user said, “Imagine how messed up people have to be before a major corporation decides to post this and their break room.”

Until I finished reading this article I was prepared to cut up my Home Depot credit card. I spent many years not only doing business with Canadian firms but visiting various parts of Canada for vacation. I watched Toronto grow from a large town to a major metropolitan city. What is happening now with the Trudeau regime just isn’t the Canada I enjoyed!!
