Newly sworn in Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh according to reports has already made history in his first week on the job, hiring four new female law clerks.
This is apparently the first time in American history that females hold the majority for clerk positions in the Supreme Court as reported by the New York Times.
One of the ladies that was hired by Justice Kavanaugh is African American which means that in the first week in his spot at the highest court in the United States he has already reached the same amount of African American clerks that ultra liberal Justice Ginsberg has hired since 1993 in an analysis reported by USA Today. This same report found that most clerks working for the Supreme Court were white males.
Western Journal writes, “Kavanaugh had promised during his hearings that while serving on the Supreme Court, he would follow the precedent he set over 12 years on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit when most of the clerks he hired were women.”
“My women law clerks said I was one of the strongest advocates in the federal judiciary for women lawyers,” Kavanaugh stated during the hearing, as reported by The Washington Post. “And they wrote that the legal profession is fairer and more equal because of me.”
“In my time on the bench, no federal judge — not a single one in the country — has sent more women law clerks to clerk on the Supreme Court than I have,” Kavanaugh said.
Kavanaugh prepared himself well. He already had a plan in place prior to his confirmation to hire clerks immediately in order to get ahead.
“If confirmed, I’ll be the first justice in the history of the Supreme Court to have a group of all-women law clerks. That is who I am,” he explained to senators.
African American clerk Kim Jackson worked for Kavanaugh in the past. Clerks Shannon Grammel, Megan Lacy and Sara Nommensen previously worked for other judges. All of the women started working for Kavanaugh this past Sunday.
