A House Ethics Committee complaint filed by journalist David Wheeler alleges Rep. Lauren Boebert, R‑Colo., had sexual relationships with three House employees—including two women under her direct supervision—and compensated staff in ways not commensurate with their duties. The filing and its details were reported by Ken Silva of Headline USA.
What the complaint alleges
According to Headline USA’s report on Wheeler’s complaint, the alleged encounters occurred during official office hours, after hours, and on weekends; in Colorado and outside the state; in Boebert’s district office; in a vehicle; and in hotel rooms paid for by her campaign committee. The staffers are named in the complaint, but Headline USA said it is not publishing the names because they are not public figures and the allegations are unconfirmed.
The complaint also alleges that when the husband of one of the female staffers learned of the affair, the couple divorced. It further claims Boebert “retained and compensated employees, including through year‑end bonus payments from official funds, other than in amounts commensurate with the duties actually performed for the House,” according to language quoted by Headline USA.
Immediate denials
Boebert has denied the allegations. In a statement quoted by journalist Juliegrace Brufke in a post on X dated Sept. 19, 2026, Boebert said: “Well, I’m not a lesbian or bisexual, and I have never, ever been in any inappropriate relationship, nor have I ever been sexually involved with any staff.”
Headline USA also noted that one of the staffers named in the complaint issued a denial to the Colorado Times Recorder.
The complainant’s track record
The Colorado Times Recorder reported that Wheeler previously accused Boebert of sexual wrongdoing. In June 2022, Wheeler launched a website claiming Boebert had worked as a paid escort; the site used a photo of a woman who was not Boebert, an error Wheeler later acknowledged and called “sloppy,” while maintaining his underlying claim, according to the Recorder. Boebert threatened to sue over those claims but did not. The Recorder reported that Wheeler instead filed a defamation lawsuit against Boebert over her public threats; that case—filed under oath and penalty of perjury and repeating the escort allegation—was later settled on undisclosed terms.
