She Killed A Cop And Smiled About It In Court, Then The Judge Took That Smile And…

A young woman brandished a gun and opened fire at a police officer during a simple traffic stop, nearly killing him in order to get out of a ticket. However, despite her smirking and denying she did anything wrong, the judge had a response that wiped the smile right off her face.

26-year-old Fayetteville resident Desiree Breshay Smith is in custody after shooting at an officer during a traffic stop, officials said.

Fayetteville police stated that an officer saw Smith’s 2006 Chevrolet Impala run a stop sign in Dashland and Fieldcrest Drives and tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver immediately fired at the officer.

As the patrol unit pulled behind the Impala, Smith allegedly opened fire before he had initiated a traffic stop. Luckily, the officer was not injured.

“As soon as he saw that she was firing shots, he initiated his emergency equipment and she began to flee,” Fayetteville Police Sergeant Jeremy Glass told WRAL, a news affiliate in Raleigh.

Smith fled from the scene but was later apprehended by the same officer after her vehicle become inoperable.

When Smith emerged from the vehicle, three shell casings fell from her lap onto the street. A stolen firearm and shell casings were located in her car, police said.

Smith was arrested at a traffic stop and charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, possession of a stolen firearm, felony flee to elude arrest, failure to stop at a stop sign, and careless and reckless driving.

Sgt. Glass stated that Smith was not cooperative with investigators.

She was initially booked into the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $25,000 secured bond.

During her initial court appearance on November 25th, Smith claimed that she was a student with a stable job, and denied having prior run-ins with law enforcement.

“I’ve never been in trouble before – never ever,” she told the judge. “I’m not guilty of anything they’re saying. I work. I go to school.”

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office disputed her claims, Smith had been in trouble with the law before. With this, Judge Stephen Stokes increased her bond to $100,000.

Regardless of Smith’s willingness to keep a job and study for school, she has proven herself to be a danger to the public and law enforcement officers. It would be safe to say that her ability to show up to class doesn’t outweigh the fact that she tried to kill a police officer just to avoid getting a traffic ticket.

According to AWM, that’s not all Judge Stokes did. He also imposed a very strict order on Smith that she is to have “no contact whatsoever” with the Fayetteville Police Department – meaning, if she is released on bond, she will not be allowed within 100 feet of any Fayetteville police officer or a police station.

  • She should have had to put up the entire bail amount. She should also be made to stay away from the entire town not just the police.
