An Alabama teacher has been charged with sending nude pictures of herself to two students and having had sexual intercourse with a nineteen year old. The age of consent in Alabama is sixteen but that does not apply in a teacher/student relationship. She was the daughter in law of of Stacy Bates, a deputy for the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. His son, Andrew filed for divorce two days after the accusations came out and the proceedings have already been finalized. She still retains her teaching certificate but local law enforcement say they may ask for it’s removal as they move along with the case.
A former teacher has been charged with sexting two pupils and having sex with one of them, police records show.
Lyndsey Sherrod Bates, 22, who worked as a special education teacher at an Alabama high school, faces up to 20 years behind bars if she is found guilty of having sex with a pupil younger than 19.
She is also charged with sending nude photos of herself, according to the indictment that was issued on Friday.
The ex-Madison County High School teacher resigned from her post earlier this year when the allegations first came to light.
Robert Tuten, Bates’s defence lawyer, said the ex-teacher was keen to prove her innocence.
He added: “She’s looking forward to clearing this up having her day in court.
While charges have been made against Bates she still has her teaching certificate, according to the Alabama State Department of Education.
State records said: “Alleged misconduct has been reported to the department. At this time, the department has not proposed any negative action against the individual’s certification or licensure.
“This status will be updated as soon as possible.”
Bates allegedly had sex with a 17-year-old boy and is also accused of sending explicit photos of herself to the pupil and another student.
