They Adopted Two Wonderful Children And Then Their House Was Immediately Vandalized….

Hate graffiti was strewn across their property. So the family did something that will definitely change their life forever.

The Hollis family house was spray-painted with hate messages after they adopted two daughters from Ukraine, named Meg and Alina, both of whom have Down syndrome.

Instead of remaining quiet about it, Anne’s two sons said they wanted to make a video, to “speak up for our sisters.”

The Hollis Boys, ages 6 and 7, asked Mom and Dad if they would help them, and they happily obliged. In 2012, they put out a call to the public to help put an end to using the word “retard,” which should have no place in our vocabulary.

The inclusiveness initiative Everyone Matters saw the boys’ video, and wanted to feature it for their global following. They asked the boys if they minded a little tweaking – like adding an intro to set up the story, changing the original hard-rock score for something more emotionally compelling, and quickening the pace to add urgency to the story.

The result is a beautiful video that took the world by storm — but it’s such a shame this family had to take action because of these hurtful, hateful words.

In the video (below), the boys show several cards with messages written on them. Each message begins with the letters ‘Re’ symbolizing their future call to stop using the word ‘retard’ to refer to people with Down Syndrome.

‘[Our sisters are] Reacting with a range of emotions—they are NOT always happy! That is a stereotype about people with Down syndrome. Don’t believe us? Then you take away Meg’s iPad and see how she reacts!’ one of the cards read.

Toward the end of the video, their cards bear the plea to ‘respect’ their sisters. ‘Our sisters are NOT Retards,’ the final card reads, before finally making an appeal to the viewers to help them remove the word by taking the pledge at www.r-word.org.

The video with the powerful message from the young boys has been viewed over 1 million times on YouTube and more than 1,000 people have liked it.

It’s clear these two amazing little boys care so greatly about their sisters! I couldn’t help but tear up watching the heartache in the eyes of the younger son on the right.

Let’s help these two brothers spread the word about acceptance.
