A young puppy named Hank faced the harsh reality of being deserted in the forest by his so-called loving family. Left to fend for himself with a broken leg, a bag of food he couldn’t open, and some used toys, Hank clung to his doggie bed as his only connection to the life he once knew.

Fortune smiled upon Hank when a compassionate passerby stumbled upon the helpless pup in the woods. Sitting obediently on his bed, Hank waited patiently for rescue. The Good Samaritan swiftly contacted a local animal shelter, which sent a volunteer to retrieve the abandoned puppy from his unfortunate predicament.

Authorities estimated that Hank had been struggling to survive in the forest for nearly two weeks before his rescue.

Humans and Animals United, the organization that took Hank under their wing, shared his story on Facebook:

“Only a puppy at eight months old yet has been through so much. His tail started wagging once he knew he was being taken to the veterinary hospital. We cannot imagine why anyone would dump him with a broken leg. Left him with his bed, toys, and food in the woods. Whoever you are, please know that Hank is now safe and will never ever be hurt again.”

Initially, Hank’s rescuers approached him with caution, concerned that he might exhibit aggression due to his harrowing experience. However, their fears were quickly alleviated as Hank’s loving nature shone through from the moment help arrived. Rosa Fond, founder of Humans and Animals United, told The Dodo, “He was nothing but love from the moment they got him. Everybody says that he’s the sweetest dog.”

Upon being taken to the vet, Hank was diagnosed with a broken leg that had been untreated for at least two weeks. The severity of his injury rendered him immobile and in pain, making it nearly impossible for him to leave his bed. The costly surgery required to mend his leg threatened to result in euthanasia.

However, the compassionate team at Humans and Animals United intervened, saving Hank from euthanasia and preparing him for the surgery he so desperately needed. But first, Hank had to gain weight, as he was severely undernourished after going without food for so long.

As word of Hank’s story spread on social media, generous donations poured in, providing the funds needed for his medical treatment. These kind-hearted contributors made it possible for Hank to receive the care he deserved after being so callously discarded by his previous owners.

With a successful surgery behind him, Hank now focuses on his recovery. Though still underweight, his loving foster family is dedicated to helping him regain his health by providing frequent meals throughout the day.

The hope is that, in the near future, Hank will find a new forever family that will cherish and care for him the way he truly deserves.
