Archie Bunker may not have been one of the most articulate characters on TV, but he is one of the most memorable. He never worried about being patriotic and was always politically incorrect.

Bunker had absolutely no tolerance for Meathead’s attack on the National Anthem during an episode of “All In The Family.” As a Veteran and a hardworking American, Bunker was not about to stand by and let someone disrespect the National Anthem.

During the sitcom’s fifth season, Archie and his son-in-law Meathead gathered around the television set to watch a New York Jets football game and stand for “The Star-Spangled Banner.” In the clip, Meathead explains to Archie why he says the anthem is not a good song since it glorifies the horrors of war.

While watching a game with his son-in-law Meathead, Archie got upset because liberal Meathead said the National Anthem was an awful song because it glorified war.

The leftist also objects to the confusing words that are in the song. Archie came to the ‘Star Spangled Banner’s’ defense.

“That is one terrible song,” Meathead complains to his father-in-law.

The leftist also objects to the confusing words that are in the song. Archie came to the ‘Star Spangled Banner’s’ defense.

“Huh? The song glorifies war, and even as a song, it stinks. Nobody can remember the words.”

Bunker’s blunt attack gets Meathead riled up. He shifts in his chair and prepares to counter Bunker’s statement with one of his own inventions.

“Don’t start up nothing with me, Meathead. I’m watching the game. That’s a beautiful song, and shut your face.

“You’re going to ruin this game for me?” Bunker lashed back.

“Can you remember the words?”

Certainly, I can!” Bunker shouts.

Meathead was taking this stance against the anthem as it was composed during the war of 1812 between the fledgling United States of America and Great Britain. However, modern-day critics of the national anthem insist that it is racist against African Americans, brown, and indigenous people of color.

Meathead then challenges the patriotic Archie Bunker to sing the first few lines of the national anthem. What happens next will have you rolling on the floor with laughter. Meathead doubles down and refuses to put the game back on until Bunker recites the words of the anthem.

Although he recites his lines with gusto, Meathead is the one who gets the pleasure of telling Bunker he is “wrong!”

“Talk about picking battles. Mike just couldn’t shut up and let Archie enjoy his football game, including the national anthem. Go, Archie!”

“When those two argue, Mike is usually in the right about things, but there are two episodes when Archie is correct, and Mike is wrong. One of them is this episode when Mike is disrespecting our National Anthem.”
