When They Saw How He Painted His House The Whole Neighborhood Lost Their Minds…

They say that how you design your home can tell a lot about your personality. And once upon a time, the homes that line the street of Mountain View in Pflugerville, Texas look like your typical abodes.

Residents here are used to seeing white, beige, and gray house. The residents were famous for being “weird,” and locals are proud of that moniker. But all of that changed when Emilio Rodriguez moved in.

Emilio has a very well-defined idea of how he wants his house to look — specifically, pink. As in, bright, bubblegum pink, all over. Not just the shutters or the trim or the gutters, but the whole deal.

Shortly after he moved in, he started painting. His neighbors in his Austin, Texas suburb, however, aren’t so happy with his choice.

“[Pink is] just my favorite color,” Rodriguez told CBS Austin, “I’ve got it tattooed on my body, on my neck.”

Emilio plans on adding more to it: a pink-tiled driveway and pink spotlights in the yard. He even wants to paint his wheelchair hot pink. He said that covering every external inch of the house in pink is sexy and that it makes him feel “perfect.”

Every inch of Emilio’s house, from the walls to the gutters, has been colored pink. He hopes that his pink house is working to “keep Austin weird” as the city is proud to be.

Although Austin is famous for being a weird city and is a liberal haven in the conservative state of Texas, Emilio’s pink house may have gone a few steps too far. Some of his neighbors wish he would change it back to another color – something other than bright pink.

“I love this house,” Emilio said to CBS, “I don’t know why people don’t like it; a lot love it.”

While Emilio is super enthused about finally getting the exotic, bubble gum-Esque house he has dreamed about for years, his neighbors are not as happy.

According to his neighbors, the house sticks out like a sore thumb on the block. Plus, now that the story has gone viral, Emilio has received nasty comments and threats.

But in the video below, Emilio says there is nothing his neighbors can do. And so what? If Emilio has been through a major hardship, and this is what he has been wanting his entire life, why not let him do it? He ain’t hurting anyone!

  • there were a couple of pink houses in my “upper class” but liberal neighborhood. I just shook my head, figuring they were likely LGBT.

  • If his home is not in an area that has a Homeowner’s Association there is little they can do. That is unless there is an ordinance that says homes have to be a certain color or colors. While it is not my color I can say there are worse ones out there.
