The meat in Aldi is amazingly cheap. Adding to the list of reasons why many shoppers love Aldi.
If you’re a regular shopper, you’re no stranger to the amazing Wednesday meat deals. Pork chops for $2.99 a pound? Chuck steak for under $20? From budget-friendly brisket to reasonably-priced ribs, you know you can look for top cuts of meat that won’t empty your wallet.
Most supermarkets and grocery shops charge through the nose for meats, but Aldi doesn’t. Whether you’re looking for brisket or pork, sausages or ribs, Aldi’s got you covered.
Aldi customers have reaped the benefits of low-cost but high-quality meat. The deals almost seem too good to be true, causing us to wonder… how does Aldi manage to charge less without compromising on quality?
- Aldi prefers to keep things small. This includes the number of employees on the job as well as the number of products on the shelf.
- They don’t sell expensive cuts of meat. This helps them keep their inventory to a minimum, lowering overhead and reducing the likelihood of unsold products going to waste.
- Aldi considers buying meat from local farms. If the meat supply was located hundreds of miles away, this would mean less travel to pay for. Aldi also avoids stocking well-known band names.
‘AWM’ gives us Aldi’s history:
But first, some history. If you thought that Aldi Supermarkets were American, you are wrong. The chain was founded by two brothers in Germany right after the end of World War II. Brothers Karl and Theodore Albrecht opened their store in 1946 after they took over their mother’s market in Essen, Germany.
“Aldi is the common brand of two German family-owned discount supermarket chains with over 10,000 stores in 20 countries and an estimated combined turnover of more than €50 billion.”
Twenty years into the company’s timeline, the organization split into two different companies. They were known as Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd. In the United States, these two companies own a combined 1,600 stores. If you’re familiar with the popular grocery store Trader Joe’s, then you might be surprised to know that they’re part of the operation first launched by the Albrecht brothers.
The Wednesday meat deals are the real deal, just like any other grocery store, Aldi is known for having a deal every day.
Aldi releases flyers explaining the Fresh Meat Special Buy two weeks in advance. Beware, though: The meat disappears fast! Don’t wait until the end of the day to shop or it might be gone—after all, Aldi has smaller stores than most grocery chains and will only carry a limited supply of each item. I like to buy early and shop in bulk, freezing the extra servings for later weeks when the deals aren’t quite as good.
