A Kentucky man was arrested for shooting down a drone that was hovering over his property and invading his family’s privacy.
While his daughter was outside sunbathing she had noticed a drone hovering over their property. She shooed it away and went in her home to tell her dad, William Merideth. He said that he wouldn’t do anything unless it was over his property again. And sure enough, there it came, hovering over his yard once again.
From US Herald:
“Within a minute or so, here it came. It was hovering over top of my property, and I shot it out of the sky. I didn’t shoot across the road, I didn’t shoot across my neighbor’s fences, I shot directly into the air.”
Mr. Merideth said four men tried to confront him after the drone was shot out of the sky, but then changed their minds when they saw his personal firearms.
“I had my 40 mm [sic] Glock on me and they started toward me and I told them, ‘If you cross my sidewalk, there’s gonna be another shooting,’ ” Mr. Merideth told the station.
The police arrested the homeowner soon afterward.
Merideth was charged with first degree wanton endangerment and criminal mischief. All for protecting the privacy of his family. For shooting his gun in the air over his own property. He plans to fight these charges in court and he makes a very valid point about the whole situation.
“Our rights are being trampled daily,” he said, the station reported. “Not on a local level only — but on a state and federal level. We need to have some laws in place to handle these kind of things.”
We have EVERYTHING backwards in this country! A drone hovering over a man’s sunbathing daughter?? Not only should it have been shot down, but the pervert who owned it should have been arrested too.
Protecting family & property rights shall not be infringed upon. Innocent of any crime!
Good for him! If more people start shooting these things out of the sky when they invade privacy, perhaps the morons flying them will get the message.
If it was hovering over my property, I would have shot it out of the sky, then put buckshot in the owners behind.
When you purchase land I thought you owned the air space above it as well as the land below.
Even though it was invading their privacy, we have laws about where it’s safe to shoot, and where it’s legal to fly and the altitude that’s safe to fly. The Police force can handle this kind of pesky intruder. Once I found out WHO owned it, I’d see about pressing charges.
due process????? guess this also is the answer to “Illegal aliens/gun control/voter fraud/fake news/dimocraps rioting and destruction of property/etc.etc.etc. It’s ok to hunt with guns, but not to protect your home and family with same guns????
So if you didn’t shoot the motherfucker down how the fuck would you track it down and find out where they were or even who they were I think you’re full of shit if it was my daughter I would’ve done the same goddamn thing
If it was a populated area then no he was not right. What if he inadvertently injured or killed a neighbors daughter? How would he feel? He should invest in some drone catching net shots for the shotgun. That would be OK. I would do that and have myself a new drone for the.cost of one shot.
Shotgun shot comes down very slowly and unless it actually hit you in the eye, would be extremely unlikely to cause injury. Trust me, I have been stupid enough to experiment with this and anything over 100 yards they are pretty ineffective, but coming down after going up, no different to dropping them out of a bag.
You’re such a fucking pussy ass snowflake
That adds a lot to the discussion.
Carren: What the heck were they doing watching a teenager..Were is her right to privacy? I think he did the right thing to protect his family
Hover over my daughter, I’ll shoot it down too and challenge anyone to come on my property. It’s called stand your ground!
The Nazi’s are out of control! Law enforcement and Judges and prosecutor’s, that make arrest and convictions for crap like this, are part of the problem. Including lawmakers, overreaching govt. doesn’t want anybody to have a backbone.Just another part of the war on guns.Thank God there are still a few men left out there!
Who ever arrested this father is a stupid nitwit. Should have used some common sense. I hope the Judge will throw this case out at once. ( Just wonder what this World is coming to, with people doing all kinds of stupid things, and no respect for the other persons.)
If they prosecute him for protecting his daughter there’s going to be trouble. People won’t stand for that! Perverted judge and cohorts. Pervert gang caught red handed.
I agree there should be laws to cover invasion of privacy with drones, but I don’t think firing a gun in close proximity to others (neighbors) should be over looked because of it. SORRY, I see others talking about doing stupid stuff but no one was in mortal danger because of the drone, but falling bullets have killed more than one.
Drones can be armed with guns, rockets, bombs, etc., so it is inaccurate to assume there is no mortal risk.
They were pellets, not bullets.
Doug go eat a fucking cock you’re probably the motherfucker looking on kitty porn right now if it was you doing it I would beat your fucking ass but no one knew who it was and less they shot the damn thing down so how do you assume that we could find out who it was when drones are very fast and can be flown to a remote location grabbed get in the car and go You’re out of your mother fucking mind if you think that I would shoot the motherfucker down and if you come running your mouth and shoot you to
Kitty porn? Perhaps you were thinking of kiddy porn. And probably you meant “unless” rather than “less. I suspect you meant that you “wouldn’t” shoot rather than the you “would” shoot. And of course, the last “to” should be “too.” You might also want to expand your vocabulary a bit and learn another word besides “motherfucker.”
People could probably follow your rants better if you used punctuation and capital letters in your sentences.
Good for you dad!! Wish there were more people like him!! The same thing happened to me last summer? They fly their dumbass drones on your property, then I say shoot them down…?
This whole story is a no brainer. The man was within his rights but the problem wherin lies with our upsidedown system. The Apes are running the world folks. Its going to be an uphill battle.
Bottom line fuck with me and my family my kids on any of my private property and I will use deadly force to protect myself
The use of deadly force is only legally justified in certain circumstances. This is basically a peeping tom incident. If you check into it I think you will find that deadly force is not justified. And this is not some new failing of the legal system. This has been true for centuries. And being on your own property is not a valid legal argument either. Murder would be murder ain the street on ou your porch.
Of course, this guy just shot the drone, not a person. So that’s not even applicable. And he was charged with wanton endangerment and criminal mischief. I think those charges will stick.
