A shocking fatal shooting on the New York City subway this past weekend could have far-reaching consequences beyond the realm of inner-city crime.
On Sunday morning, Daniel Enriquez, a 48-year-old Goldman Sachs employee, was shot in the chest and killed while riding the Q train across the Manhattan Bridge into the city. Police later stated that the attack was unprovoked.
Enriquez worked for Goldman Sachs for nine years and was described as a “beloved” employee by the investment bank.
His death is just the latest in a string of violent and indiscriminate crimes against the city’s public transportation system in recent months. A mass shooting on the N train in Brooklyn injured 23 people last month, and a woman was pushed to death on the tracks in the city’s popular Times Square station in January.
However, according to reports, police are still looking for the man who shot and killed a Goldman Sachs employee on the New York subway on May 22, while his partner claims he was only taking the train to avoid paying for a surge-price taxi.
The gunman — who police sources have named as Andrew Abdullah still remains at large.

Family and coworkers have described Enriquez’s death as a “devastating” crime straight out of a “horror movie.” Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon called the incident a “senseless tragedy” and expressed condolences to his family on Monday.
In a statement, Goldman chief executive David Solomon said Enriquez “epitomized our culture of collaboration and excellence”.
“Daniel Enriquez was a dedicated and beloved member of the Goldman Sachs family for nine years. He worked diligently to support our Macro Research team in New York and epitomized our culture of collaboration and excellence,”
“We are devastated by this senseless tragedy and our deepest sympathies are with Dan’s family at this difficult time.”
The investigation is still ongoing, according to an NYPD spokesperson, and no arrests have been made.
Police urge, “Help us find this guy. There’s other people riding the train. We have some of them, others who saw something. Maybe someone who took a photo or some video on their cellphone, share it with us.”
