She Thought Her Baby Was Blowing Bubbles In An Ultrasound, Then Doctors Found Out…

An expectant mother went in for a routine ultrasound, however, they noticed something disturbing in her baby. To make the matter worst the doctor who broke the news suggested aborting the baby. However, she chose to do something else instead, and wait until you see the result of her decision.

When Tammy Gonzalez and her doctors noticed a large circle in her in ultrasound, one that looked like her baby was blowing a bubble, the expectant mother began to panic.

“Is that on me or the baby?” Tammy asked.

Later, tests confirmed that the mass was a large tumor emerging from the soft palate of the 17-week-old baby.

The doctors realized the amorphous bubble was something called a teratoma. Teratomas are extremely rare and usually fatal tumors that affect roughly 1 in every 100,000 births. Doctors suggested she terminate the pregnancy or risk a miscarriage. But Dr. Ruben Quintero has another risky option.

The doctor proposed endoscopic surgery to remove the tumor from inside the womb. The procedure has never been done before, but Tammy was prepared to do everything to save her little girl, who would be named Leyna.

“I said, ‘I want to do this,'” she recalled. “Let’s do this.”

Tammy, the brave mama bear, was awake during the entire procedure. Dr. Quintero inserted a tiny camera into her womb and carefully removed the tumor, which was the size of a peach. The surgery was a success.

Leyna was born healthy on October 1, 2010, weighing 8 pounds, 1 ounce, with a tiny scar as the only reminder the tumor was ever there.

Now, at 20 months old, Leyna is happy and healthy. Some call it as miraculous as the Honey family’s Thanksgiving miracle birth.

“She’s perfectly normal, thank God,” Gonzales said.

The doctors say that because they were able to remove all of the tumors during the procedure, it’s highly unlikely to return.
