As a top-rated news anchor’s departure from Fox News raises questions, some speculate that the network is shifting towards a new era of conservative journalism.
Fox News has announced that Lawrence Jones, a 30-year-old anchor from Texas, will be replacing Tucker Carlson, who was recently relieved of his prime-time duties. Jones has been given a shot at the time slot after Fox tried out a rotating list of anchors. According to insiders, it’s significant that Jones has been chosen to step up so soon after Carlson’s departure.
Jones is currently the host of “Lawrence Jones Cross Country,” which pulls in around a million viewers and 108,000 in the key 25-54-year-old demographic. He works as an enterprise reporter for the morning show during the week. After working for the Obama campaign at 15, Jones found a home at the right-leaning network, where he has covered stories like the Uvalde, Texas mass shooting and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on minority communities throughout the United States.
Jones once declined Sean Hannity’s offer to work for Fox, saying that he didn’t think it was a good idea since he’s a libertarian and they’re going to disagree a lot. However, Hannity encouraged him to just be himself, and Jones has since worked his way up to having his own show. He may have a godparent of every single race, which has allowed him to understand different people’s grievances and the things that matter to them the most.
Former Fox News star Megyn Kelly claimed on her SiriusXM podcast that Carlson hasn’t actually been fired, and that he remains under contract with Fox. She explained that Carlson was contacted by CEO Suzanne Scott and told that he would not be allowed to do any more shows and that he was denied access to the company email.
Kelly said that now, the two would have to “negotiate an exit” from the network. Carlson has repeatedly attempted to find out why he was being taken off the air, but he was rebuffed by Scott.
Kelly thinks that the call from Scott caught Carlson completely off guard, and she finds it disheartening that the network has treated its No. 1 star with such disdain. Carlson managed to help the network succeed through one of its most turbulent periods, but she questions why the network would treat him poorly now.
According to an Independent report, Carlson had been negotiating a new contract that would have reportedly kept him on the network through 2029.
