Well, this post sure seemed to divide a lot of people on social media. It’s not what the proud dad expected from people who read his post.
Social media seems like the perfect place to publicly showcase one’s pride in their offspring. However, once you’ve invited strangers into your personal life, you can expect unsolicited parenting advice or, worse, condemnation of your tactics and accusations of child abuse. Sadly, Chris Crawford learned this the hard way.
While no one is denying having a part-time job is a great way for teens to learn responsibility, where is the line drawn?
Crawford recently posted about his 14-year-old son’s work hustle on social media.
“HUGE shoutout to this kid of mine, 14 years old [sic] and has a PT job at Burger King, not only does he work every day he can including weekends when most kids are out enjoying their summer he goes in early and stays late almost every time he works, he loves every minute of it.”
The father absolutely gushed over how proud he is of his child for taking the initiative to become a solid hard worker.
“Making his own money, saving for a car, being responsible in his decisions, becoming a respectable young man!!!!. I couldn’t be more proud of him,” he continued.
Chris Crawford, whose Facebook bio reads “I’m a Father, a friend, and a GOD fearing Man” concluded his post by saying “Some of y’all lazy, grown ass people out there should take notes!!”
The post soon went viral after Twitter user @kittynouveau shared the post with a caption reading “god this is depressing.”
The tweet sparked a conversation about how the father should be more concerned than proud that his son spends all his free time working.
“He’s definitely A. Avoiding home life by working 24/7 B. Going to overwork himself to the point that he’ll be jaded to actual hard work later in life when it should count C. Going to have difficulties learning moderation because his extremism is rewarded D. all of the above.”
“They straight up said like, ‘proud of my little wage slave!’”
Another person wrote, “It is indeed. I’m sorry, but a kid choosing work over summer is indicative of something dark happening somewhere. And for all those ‘muh but children must know how life works:’ you’re actively supporting exploitation and child labor.”
A critic shared, “So fun fact, this type of stuff causes psychological damage in adult life. As it turns out, when kids don’t get their full childhood to be children, they struggle to be adults in adulthood.”
“This kid seems a bit extreme, but I worked 20 hrs/week in high school and still participated in the normal school stuff. Everyone charts their own path. Some kids have no choice because their parents can’t afford to simply give them money.”
People were concerned about the young boy considering his father stated he works seven days a week! But according to Crawford’s post, the job is what makes his son very happy. And his son can be seen smiling in the pictures he has posted of him in his Burger King uniform.
Your first job always impacts you and is something you remember no matter how old you get!

I thought you couldn’t work until 16…isn’t this illegal?
