The news outlet Business Insider made a simple request with The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), but little do they know they have accidentally leaked hundreds of previously undisclosed flight records associated with four of Jeffrey Epstein’s private jets.
According to Business Insider, in January 2020 they made a request to the FAA for flight records pertaining to a handful of private jets owned by Epstein.
The outlet reportedly filed the request under the Freedom of Information Act but was ultimately denied the request by the FAA two months later.
But then, earlier this year, the FAA reportedly mailed Business Insider a portion of Epstein’s flight records consisting of 2,300 flight records from four private jets registered by the former billionaire between 1998 and 2020.

In March 2020, however, the FAA denied our request, saying that “the responsive records originate from an investigative file” and were therefore exempt from disclosure. The agency cited Exemption 7(A), which Congress designed to shield records that were “compiled for law enforcement” and “could reasonably be expected to interfere with enforcement proceeding.” The FAA did not specify which enforcement proceeding the records might interfere with; Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s ex-girlfriend and confidante, faces a trial over sex-trafficking charges this month.
But despite its original denial, the FAA inadvertently mailed Insider a portion of Epstein’s flight records alongside correspondence for an unrelated FOIA request earlier this year. The records contained data on 2,300 flights among four private jets registered to Epstein between 1998 and 2020. Most of them had appeared in Insider’s searchable database of all known flights connected to Epstein.
The new FAA records also reveal 704 previously unknown flights taken by Epstein’s planes. These include hundreds of trips from a three-year gap in the public record, from 2013 to 2016, when the jets’ movements were unaccounted for.

The records do not reveal the names of passengers who were on the flights but the report noted that they could provide clues about what Epstein or his associates were up to at the points in time when the flights were taken.
Epstein’s private jets most often flew between the areas where he owned homes, including New York, Florida, New Mexico, France, and the Virgin Islands.
The revelation comes as the trial for Epstein’s gal pal, Ghislaine Maxwell, kicked off this week in Federal District Court in Manhattan with opening statements from one of the pilots who flew Epstein’s planes.

More than two years after Jeffrey Epstein was found dead in a jail cell a month after his arrest on sex-trafficking charges, Ghislaine Maxwell — the woman who prosecutors say helped him to recruit, groom and abuse young girls — went on trial on Monday in Manhattan.
Ms. Maxwell and Mr. Epstein were “partners in crime,” a federal prosecutor, Lara Pomerantz, told the jury. Ms. Maxwell sexually exploited young girls by developing their trust, helped to normalize abusive sexual conduct and then “served them up” to Mr. Epstein in a decade-long scheme, the prosecutor said.
“The defendant and Epstein made young girls believe that their dreams could come true. They made them feel special, but that was a cover,” Pomerantz said. “Behind closed doors, the defendant and Epstein were committing heinous crimes. They were sexually abusing teenage girls.”
