The girl questioned the stranger, “What’s the code word?” His reaction said it all. With a blank expression, he sped off. Her mother had instilled in her the rule of using a code word in such situations. If a stranger knew the code word, it meant they were indeed sent by her family. But in this case, the man’s ignorance of the phrase signaled danger.
