A diver was having underwater fun in Parker, Arizona near the Cienega Springs boat ramp which is on the Colorado River, when he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

A pair of skeletons adorned in sunglasses, flip-flops, a bikini, and a rainbow-colored wig, tethered to lawn chairs…just sitting at the bottom of the river.

Sholl called the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office and they sent out a team to inspect the skeletons. That launched a hunt for what authorities believed could be real bodies.

However, it turned out the skeletons, sitting about 40 feet underwater, were fake and had been strategically placed to appear as if they were sitting together. Their lawn chairs were bound to large rocks.

A diver from the Buckskin Fire Department captured the scene with a video camera. The sheriff’s office called the scene a tea party.

The skeletons were wearing sunglasses, and one is holding a sign that included the words “Bernie” and “dream in the river,” although the entire sign is not legible.

The sign also had the date of Aug. 16, 2014, which was possibly when the skeletons were placed there.

The next day, Sholl received a phone call from a friend telling him that his discovery had made its way to national TV. Sholl was shocked.

The story was on the Morning Show and only the county deputy was mentioned as discovering the skeletons.

“Skeleton tea party,” Martin Sholl said. “It was funny. The next day when my friend called and told me that the chaos I created was on every morning show in the country, I was shocked.”

The skeletons became an instant tourist attraction. Meanwhile, a local couple took credit for setting up the hoax.
